If you’re anything like me, you’ve found yourself in the position of needing a last-minute gift for someone. When I was perusing patterns for my next project, I came across this Eleventh Hour Crochet Blanket, and it was like the heavens parted and the angels smiled upon me! It was designed specifically for the emergency gift giver and it’s so, so easy.

This blanket is thick, cozy, adorable and best of all, it works up in a matter of hours! It’s the ideal gift for a birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, wedding or Christmas!

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO CROCHET A BLANKET?

MATERIAL NOTES:

This blanket is made with extra thick yarn (which contributes to its coziness and its ability to be worked up so quickly). I would not recommend using another type or weight of yarn, because it will change the speed and plushiness of the blanket if you do.

By the way, one of the things I love about making blankets is having it spread over your lap, getting longer and longer as you go. Makes the job cozier, don’t you think?

The pattern recommends a P15mm Crochet Hook, but I didn’t have one this large so I used the largest one I had – an 11.5mm.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CROCHET A Jumbo BLANKET?

It took just over 3 hours to make this blanket. This means it is possible to whip this blanket up at the very last minute! Not that you should but it’s possible!

MEASUREMENTS:

The measurements given by the pattern were for a blanket that is approximately 32 inches wide and 50 inches long. My blanket turned out to be quite a bit smaller.

As I’ve said a number of times, I do have tight tension and to make matters worse I could not find the right size crochet hook anywhere so I used the largest one I had on hand, which was an 11.50mm. That explains why my blanket came out smaller (thankfully it is for my eight-year-old so it’s the perfect size for her but it still makes a wonderful lap blanket for an adult). My blanket measured 25.5 inches wide by 44 inches long.

GAUGE:

The pattern gives a gauge of 5 stitches by 4 rows to equal 4 inches. My gauge was 7 stitches by 4 rows to equal 4 inches. But remember, I had a smaller hook when I did my gauge swatch.

PATTERN NOTES:

This blanket pattern is excellent! It’s a very easy, basic pattern on repeat but it turns out looking so crisp and classy. I love how plush the yarn is and the blanket comes out at a nice weight without being too heavy.

This is not only a great pattern for making a super quick blanket, but it is the perfect beginner’s project too!
